Defining the Outsourcing Models
There are two styles of outsourcing, Virtual Assistant and Managed Service. Although both offer business process support, how the services are organized and delivered differ greatly.
- Virtual Assistant (VA)
Equivalent to hiring a full-time employee, except the individual is most often remotely located and at lower cost than hiring in-house. When hiring a VA, it starts with a vendor sending you candidate resumes for you to review. It remains your responsibility to interview, hire, train, fill for absences, manage, and supervise the individual. And, if they leave, the process starts over.
- Managed Service (MS)
Delivers a results-based business solution rather than just man-hours. With this model your practice is relieved of the human resource burdens because Dr.BPO is totally responsible for the delivery of quality, continuity, and results. And because delivery is by a team with diverse skills rather than an individual…

Decision Making Criteria
Whether you are planning to engage part-time support for a specific task, full-time support of select functions, or aiming for a complete practice transformation where all non-clinical work will be outsourced, use of Managed Services is the definitely the smart way to go.
Cost-Effectiveness:
Managed Services (MS) and Virtual assistants (VA) are both often very affordable, low-cost options. Typically there is little to no cost difference (note that Dr.BPO MS does not charge any add-on or installation fee). MS always proves to be most cost-effective when considering the total value.
Flexibility and Commitments:
VAs typically require a full-time engagement. MS can be hired on a flexible basis; hourly, part-time, full time, or even on-demand. Both VA and MS work on a contractual or project basis, meaning there’s no long term commitment required.
Scalability:
Both VAs and MS allows for easy scaling up or down based on your needs.
Direct Control:
When working with a VA, you directly manage and supervise the individual. With MS, Dr.BPO assumes the responsibility for managing production to achieve defined goals and objectives. Each client can reallocate this management time to patient care or choose to directly manage their team.
Personalized Support:
Both VA and MS can tailor their services specifically to your needs and learn your preferences over time. The advantage MS has is that is has highly experienced project leaders capable of quickly customizing the service for each client. Whereas VA services are limited to the hired individual, MS has an organization with many skills and experience available to satisfy each client’s requirements.
Faster Response Times:
VA service timing is based on the availability of the individual. For example, there is no support on days the VA is sick. MS support includes a primary point of contact along with multiple layers of back-up staff (no downtime ensures the fastest response possible).
Access to a Wide Range of Skills:
Each VA offer skills and experience in specific areas. Services outside of this skill set requires engaging addition VAs. In contrast, MS offers the right skills at the right time. Utilizing a unique “SEAT” model, clients engage a SEAT for either full, part-time, or on-demand coverage. The SEAT is constantly filled with the right talent required for the various tasks that are required at any given time. Dr. BPO maintains a large staff of individuals with the types of skills and experience that is required to expertly perform the needed business operations of a private practice. Dr.BPO draws from its entire organization to contribute to the solution success for each practice.
Control Over Staffing:
With a VA, interviewing, selecting, and managing are client responsibilities. With MS they are not. MS is responsible for achieving assigned goals and objectives while maintain the practice’s culture and relationships. Therefore unless a clients desires to participate, Dr.BPO handles these HR and management requirements.
